A Message from Karen Lewin

About Karen Lewin

Bruchim HaBayim! Welcome to Congregation Beth El!  There are many new and exciting changes taking place in our synagogue community and especially in our Fierverker Jewish Learning Community (FJLC)!!

Our wonderful community offers enriching, engaging Jewish experiences for people of all ages. Recently, we have been focusing our educational experiences and programs around Jewish values, as we feel it is so important to work toward incorporating them into our every day lives to the extent possible.  I encourage you to take advantage of all our dynamic community has to offer and to think about how we at Beth El can help you make the most out of your experiences here!  Please do not hesitate to contact me to talk further about this or anything else!

L'Shalom,
Karen

Karen Lewin grew up outside of Philadelphia in Montgomery County, and earned her bachelor’s degree in English and elementary education from Clark University.  She graduated from the Davidson Graduate School of Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary with a master's degree in Jewish education in 2001 and spent five years teaching Judaic Studies for 2 different New York City Jewish day schools.

Karen met her husband Joe in 2004,  and moved to the Princeton area in the summer of 2005 when she began her tenure as the education director of Congregation Beth El.  In 2008, Karen and Joe were blessed to increase their family with their son, Charlie.

Karen is a product of the Conservative movement.  Raised at Temple Sinai in Dresher, PA, she is the child of parents who both centered their social lives and volunteer efforts around the synagogue and the greater Jewish Community.  She attended Camp Ramah in the Poconos as both a camper and employee and was an active participant in USY.

In addition to re-envisioning and reformating Congregation Beth El's religious school program, Karen Lewin is involved in reinvigorating our youth groups as we work with  other area Conservative synagogues on building a stronger combined program.  Karen is also a member of the Program Advisory Committee of Women's League for Conservative Judaism and a contributor to their projects and curricula.
